Participants in the 8th GD Day.

The main dedicated international event is the “GD day” that is held every 2 years: www.gd-day.com.

Contacts can also be established through the social network LinkedIn – GD-OES group – that contains information on the various conferences attended by GD users.

Are there some ISO standards available?

The TC 201 technical committee for Surface Analysis has established a SC (sub committee) for GD. The first standard (ref 14707) was an “introduction to use.” The second standard (ref 16962) was related to the widespread application of GD for Zn and Al coatings on steel. Work is in process for the characterization of oxide films and general procedures for quantification.

In parallel, the TC 17 (steel analysis) is working on a standard for the characterization of low alloyed steels with GD.

The presentations of past “GD days” are available from HORIBA Scientific.

On the “LinkedIn GD-OES group”, references to published papers with GD data are regularly posted.

Are there some patents in GDOES?

HORIBA holds the most active patents for GD – the main ones related to the interferometer, the pulsed RF, the use of magnetic fieds, the Li bell, and the UFS. Patents and published papers are proofs of the vitality of the research domain and as GD developed, many new ideas came out.
